That is exactly what they will try and exactly what they will get. If over half the teams are really losing money then salaries will continue to get scaled back. Once the lockout starts, players will go to Russia or other leagues in Europe at significantly reduced salaries which plays right into the NHL's hands. They will prove yet again that they will play for pretty much anything because despite what the players say, they have it pretty good.
